African Grey proclaims “I’m on holiday – quack – quack”
Our birds come on holiday (=vacation) with us every year in the UK & these photos are from the Wells-next-the Sea Pirate festival in Norfolk in the East coast of England and on the beach there. Also some at the Royal Norfolk Show in the queens Sandringham estate where Queen Elizabeth spends the winter months.
Annie & I were traveling on route one holiday when about 5 miles from Wells-next-the-sea (yes that is its real name) we passed a sign for the Pirate festival and we shared a laugh as we had both birds traveling with us. Since we were already in the area we had no excuse not to take part in the festive. We already had our own harnessed parrots for goodness sake, we only had to rig the costumes!
On our holidays we take the birds out walking with us and to the pub where they enjoy a romp around the table in the garden areas. Much better life than cooped up indoors. Ruby the A.grey is extremely talkative but typically not in public, although whilst visiting a viewing spot for peregrine falcons manned by the RSBB personnel (Royal Society for Protection of <wild> Birds) she did proclaim in a loud clear voice “I’m on Holiday!” which got a good laugh.
Ruby usually names the style of holiday she is on herself. For example whilst on a sheep farm she called that – “I’m on holiday – bahaaa” and when on a narrow boat (canal) holidays she refers to them as “I’m on holiday – quack – quack” due to the ducks found on the way.
Thanks for the fun
